Next Indiana Jones
kyle_a — Thu, 01/30/2003 - 08:41
OK, so Harrison Ford was and is Indiana Jones. But what if the movies continued? I mean, Sean Connery was THE Bond, but 007 is still around and thriving, long after he quite the role. So if the Indiana Jones movies were to continue, who would be your pick to replace Harrison Ford?
One of my picks would be Matthew McConaughey - he seems to have the right mix of roughness, good looks, and acting ability. Owen Wilson would be another one. Vin Diesel, if he had any acting ability, would be an interesting Jones - I don't think he could pull off the "Professor Jones" though.

NOT Vin Diesel
gauntlet — Thu, 01/30/2003 - 08:52mmmm....if someone had to replace Harrison, brad pitt might be an option...but i'm not real big brad pitt fan. however i think anyone would be better that Vin Diesel playing Indiana. all i can say is that it's a good thing Harrison has sign on for the next Indiana Jones Movie....yes that right, they are planning on a yet another classic Indiana Jones movie in the coming year or two, with Harrison!
Brad Pit is a wuss
kyle_a — Thu, 01/30/2003 - 08:56Well, OK, maybe he wouldn't be so bad. Tom Chruise and Ben Affleck are out - to "pretty boy". Matt Damon MIGHT work, I was pretty impressed with him in The Bourne Identity, but he's also borderline pretty boy.
I'd be curious to get a female's opinion here - I think we need a post from our cultural discerner and entertainment expert, Bethany Kemler...

I think Brad Pitt is much cooler now after such movies as 12 monkeys and Fight Club. I don't really think he could pull off the style of humor that Ford always adds to his flicks. "what an incredible smell you've discovered!" Affleck, Cruise and Damon would be worse though.

Ok Matthew "southern boy" McConaughey is definately out, he has very limited range as an actor. I think all the big names are out, it needs to be someone a little more on the fringe, what about the guy that plays aragorn, after a haircut. I'll try and come up with more names later, maybe we should just clone Ford
The correct answer
mishapen — Sat, 02/01/2003 - 21:27Okay boys. Now the most important aspect of picking out a new Harrison Ford is that he looks attractive when he is rough looking. Brad Pitt looks like scum when he's not clean cut, Matt Damon never looks rough, and Vin Diesel scares me. Vin looks like he might burn things all the time or break all the rules. I'm thinking Mel Gibson would be pretty good. Indy can't be too young, or he wouldn't be a believable Proffesor. If Matthew McConaughey was a little older I think he would be great. That Southern boy thing he would have to loose, but I think he would be up for the task.
action_jackson?
kyle_a — Sun, 02/02/2003 - 04:23OK Mr. Action Jackson... Reign of Fire, U-571, Edtv, Contact, Amistad, and of course the ever classic Texas Chainsaw Massacre: the Next Generation AND Angels in the Outfield. All movies where Matt does NOT play a southern boy, all movies that show his range and talent as an actor. It would seem your taste in male actors is lacking - not that that's a bad thing for a guy :-)
EW says Harrison can still do it
gauntlet — Tue, 02/04/2003 - 00:11Entertainment Weekly had an article on just this topic. They eventually said that harrison can still pull it off and that his audience has grown over the years since the last Indy movie. the article is here: http://www.ew.com/ew/report/0,6115,199799%7E1%7E0%7E,00.html
Ford forever
Sirus — Sun, 02/09/2003 - 02:56I think that Harrison Ford will be the only good Indiana Jones. He set the bar high, and I don't think anyone else would be able to live up to the expectations.
